If you're traveling east or west on East Strickland Street between SR 92 and Chicago Avenue, be prepared to stop at the new stop signs that were recently installed to improve safety at the intersection of East Strickland Street and McCarley Street. Previously, drivers did not stop on East Strickland at McCarley, but Ward 3 City Council Members Dr. LaShun Burr Danley and Sam Davis received input from citizens that changes needed to be made to improve the safety of the intersection due to numerous accidents there. Police Chief Gary Sparks was asked to examine the intersection and suggest improvements. Chief Sparks recommended adding the stop signs on East Strickland Street on the East and West sides of McCarley Street.
So now, drivers east and westbound on East Strickland Street must stop at McCarley as southbound drivers on McCarley Street have always done. The only side of the intersection that does not stop now is northbound on McCarley Street crossing the railroad tracks from Veterans Memorial Highway. Please be cautious in the area as citizens get accustomed to the new stop signs.
