2023 Municipal General Election

Our next election will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, for Mayor, Councilmembers Ward 2 Post 2, Ward 4 and Ward 5. Persons wishing to qualify as candidates in this election may do so from Monday, August 21, 2023, through and including Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 8:30 am until 12:00 noon and from 1:00 pm until 4:30 pm each day in the office of the City Clerk in City Hall located at 6695 Church Street. 

Here are the candidates who officially qualified for the election as of the end of the qualifying period. Here are the official election results as certified by the Douglas County Board of Elections:

Write-In Candidates

Georgia does allow for write-in candidates, but they also have to qualify in order to be eligible to receive votes. Write-in candidates must file a written intention of candidacy with the municipal election superintendent and publish a notice in the “official gazette of the municipality” no earlier than January 1 of the year in which the election is to be held and no later than seven (7) days after the closing of the regular qualifying period (O.C.G.A. § 21-2-133).

Municipal elections for Mayor and City Council are held and conducted in accordance with Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the O.C.G.A., the Georgia Election Code.

The City of Douglasville Municipal Elections are nonpartisan and are held without primaries.

The 2023 General Election for the City of Douglasville, Georgia will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.  The offices to be elected are Mayor, Councilmember Ward 2 Post 2, Councilmember Ward 4, and Councilmember Ward 5. 

Qualifying is scheduled during the following qualifying days/times in the City Clerk’s Office, City Hall - 2nd Floor, 6695 Church Street:

Each person desiring to qualify must submit a Candidacy Affidavit for the position sought and pay the appropriate qualifying fee for the position:

Residents of the City of Douglasville wishing to vote in the November 7, 2023, election but who are not registered electors of the City may register to vote through October 10, 2023.

In 2018, there were precinct changes implemented by the Douglas County Board of Elections and Registration. These changes consolidated precincts so city residents no longer have to vote at multiple locations. If you have questions about your precinct voting location, please visit www.mvp.sos.ga.gov.

NOTICE OF GENERAL ELECTION DATE FOR CITY OF DOUGLASVILLE

The General Election for the City of Douglasville, Georgia will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, and the hours for voting shall be 7:00 am to 7:00 pm at the following polling places:
1) Golden United Methodist Church, 6903 W Forrest Avenue;
2) Old Douglas County Courthouse, 6754 Church Street;
3) Stewart Middle School, 8138 Malone Street;
4) Arbor Station Elementary School, 9999 Parkway South;
5) Bright Star Methodist Church, 3715 Bright StRoad;
6) Chapel Hill Middle School, 3989 Chapel Hill Road;
7) Chestnut Log Middle School, 2544 Pope Road;
8) Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3099 Chapel Hill Road;
9) First Baptist Church of Douglasville, 5900 Prestley Mill Road;
10) Factory Shoals Middle School, 3301 Shoals School Road;
11) Winston Elementary School, 7465 Georgia Highway 78;
12) Atlanta West Pentecostal Church, 2960 Skyview Drive;

The offices to be elected are Mayor, Councilmember Ward 2 Post 2, Councilmember Ward 4, and Councilmember Ward 5.
Residents of the City of Douglasville wishing to vote in the November 7, 2023 election but who are not registered electors of the City may register to vote through October 10, 2023.
Early voting by absentee ballots will be held Monday through Friday at the Voter Registrar’s Office, first floor, Douglas County Courthouse, 8700 Hospital Drive, beginning Monday, October 16, 2023, and continuing through Friday, November 3, 2023, between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm each day, and by mail. The first day to submit an absentee ballot application will be Monday, August 21, 2023, and the last day to submit an absentee ballot application is Friday, October 27, 2023.
Advance voting will begin Monday, October 16, 2023, and continue through Friday, November 3, 2023, at the same place and times. Mandatory Saturday Voting will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, and Saturday, October 28, 2023.
